Kris Allen - Ain't No Sunshine.
After Wednesday night's show, I have reevaluate my stand on who might win.
Clearly, I've been an Adam Lambert supporter from the beginning.

Hay sexy face.
His soaring vocals, dynamic stage presence and endearing personality were what first drew me to him. Plus, he's extremely original and manages to somehow make songs his own. Again, he didn't disappoint with his version of "Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry. Although the ending note was a bit screechy, he was still pitch perfect and delivered a riveting performance complete with funky dance moves. He even changed it up by slowing down a section before the chorus, giving it a surprising twist that actually worked to his advantage. Plus, I found it extremely endearing of him to give a shout-out to the band who, in his words, "hooked me up with a great arrangement". He also ditched his usual emo-rocker look for a slicked back updo much like the one he had for Motown week. WHICH MAKES HIM FRESH AND FUNKY IN MY BOOKS (bias). Another thing I have to point out about this week's performance. Although it wasn't as good as "Tracks of My Tears", I have to salute the man for choosing PTFM. Apparently, he wanted to do Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" (his version of it is crazy. Amazing sort of crazy), but Fox couldn't get the rights for the song in time, so he only had 24 hours to pick another song, rework it and rehearse it. I think that's why Simon didn't say anything much about the song other than it being "brave".
But now, this one other contestant who before this, managed to somehow slip past my radar, just wowed me to no end this week with his rendition of Bill Wither's "Ain't No Sunshine".
I've known about Kris Allen for awhile now, but I've been taking him for granted for the duration of the competition. I first saw him in the Top 36 singing Michael Jackson's "Man In The Mirror", it was good and original, but it didn't wow me as much as Adam's performance of The Rolling Stone's classic "Satisfaction". Then, during Country and Motown week, I never got to see his performances because I kept missing the show and only bothered to watch Glambert online. But, looking back at those performances now, you can clearly tell that he keeps upping the bar every week, getting better and better with time. This week, his performance showcased his husky voice and also made him the only AI contestant to ever to play two instruments on the show: the guitar and piano. It wasn't just original, it was emotionally driven. And that emotion is what made him so appealing. The only problem I had was his ending note as well, his falsetto was a little pitchy but other than that, it was an amazing end to the night. What I have to commend him for though, is the fact that he managed to hold his own in a post-Lambert spot. For someone to be able to shine even after what Adam does, is an amazing feat in its own. So, good on ya, Kris.
Where Adam is flamboyant and dramatic, Kris is much more grounded when it comes to his performances, choosing to play his guitar onstage on many occasions. In many ways, he's what people call the anti-Lambert. A complete antithesis of everything that Adam is. He has a much more boy-next-door kind of vibe and seems to be the most commercial contestant right now as it would be more likely for him to put out a mainstream pop record, much like his self-produced album, Brand New Shoes that was released in 2007. Right now, Kris seems to have the upper-hand over Adam since he's already established himself as a songwriter and plays so many instruments. On the other hand, Adam puts on a better show and is entertaining all the way through. This is where his background in theater gives him an edge as he would know what an audience wants and will be able to reach out to more diverse audiences.
Kris and Adam talk nail polish.
This should be interesting. Two friends, battling it out for the crown. Both have the talent and the chops to survive in the music industry. Both have the looks to draw in crazy, rabid fangirls and both of them are extremely lovable and have great personalities. Yet both are different in so many ways that it's hard to tell who's better or if they're on par with one another.
As of now, I can't really tell who's going to win. But, I really hope both of them end up in the finals together. It'll be like a Cook vs. Archuleta showdown all over again. What an exciting prospect. I can't wait to see what the two of them do to keep themselves in the race.
