Adam Lambert - Cryin'.

American Idol Top 3 Results Show, Studio Recordings & Wrap-Ups.

Results show deserves its own post because it was that epic. I'll try to be quick about this. Because recaps that are too long suck. And because only important moments deserve to be noted.
  • Cast of "Night At The Museum 2" opens the show. Ben Stiller says Ryan got hurt in a tragic bikini wax incident. LOL. Was actually promoting his new movie.
  • 88 million votes in this week! Only 1 million votes separate the Top 2! HOMG.
  • Ford Music Video: Animated superheroes. Don't like it.
  • Alicia Keys does a mini Idol Gives Back thing. African kid from Rwanda who learned an English song within a week performs.
  • Top 3 are backstage, time for hometown videos! <3
  • Danny Gokey is called out first. They talk about Jamar who was kicked out too early, IMO. Bring back Ricky Braddy while you're at it. Play clip!

  • Kris Allen is next! He has free cheese dip for life at his favourite restaurant! Precious.

We are going home to Arkansas! Tv interviews, he's on the news! Again with the crazy crowds. Radio interviews! Performance at Riverfest Amphitheatre, jumps into the crowd omg nearly gets mauled. Welcome to San Diego! It's going to be wild. :D Off to the TV station for the morning news. He's also a weatherman! Helps the weathergirl apply eyeliner. Amazing snakeskin boots. Adam exclaims, "This is nuts" as he points out the window of his limo at the crowd. Goes back to the Metropolitan Educational Theatre, a place he considers a huge part of his childhood. Kids ask adorable questions like, "How'd you get so good at singing and dancing?". Adam offers words of encouragement, telling them to just keep practicing and doing what they're doing. Another kid asks, "Who does your hair?" YES ADAM. THAT'S SOMETHING WE'D ALL LIKE TO KNOW. Adam says visiting the kids was a "big, full circle moment". Back to Mt. Carmel high school, his alma mater. There’s the “streaker" with her bright blue bra! FUNNY ADAM SQUEAL. ADORKABLE. Off to Mirimar station where he sings "Star Spangled Banner". • Danny wants it to be over, he just wants to know the results. Adam, being the fangirl he is, "I want to see Katy Perry!" SO CUTE.
  • She performs “Waking Up In Vegas”, wearing this insane Elvis-like getup complete with this cape:

  • It's pretty clear who she's fan of. Apparently she and Adam are acquaintances! And according to EW.Com, Adam didn't know that she did that to her cape, so he was just as shocked when he saw it. Apparently he got really excited and was "OMG-ing" the whole time.
  • BUT OMG EPIC. ILY KATY.
  • FINALLY. Some actual results. Top 3 are brought center stage. “After the nationwide vote…I can now reveal the first person competing in next week’s finale is......."

  • ADAM LAMBERT!!!! OMG. CUE MORE SCREAMING AROUND THE HOUSE AND JUMPING AROUND. PRESENTING OVERWHELMED ADAM, with the first picture being the reaction he had right after his name was called out, followed by more overwhelmed Adam moments!
  • And now, presenting, MORE KRADAM LOVE. There is no such thing as not enough brolove!

  • And OMG THEY ARE COMPARING NAILS?
  • A story that was shared by an Allen family member:

Did you notice Kris had his thumbnail repainted? Can you guess who painted it? That's right! Adam Lambert! Kris performed during Rock week with a painted thumbnail, and his homecoming footage captured the chipped polish. Tuesday night, however, Kris performed one of the best performances of the night (and the season, might I add) with a freshly painted thumbnail.

According to Megan Malone, Adam painted Kris's thumbnail after the homecoming visits and removed the polish from one of his own nails, stating "If you can carry around a piece of me, man; I can do the same for you." Malone said, "The Allens believe Kris wears the black fingernail polish in support of Adam because he wanted Adam in the finale. Also, Kris wanted to dispel any rumors claiming the two weren’t great friends." Kris and Adam were roommates in the Idol Mansion throughout their stay.

  • <333333333333333333333333.>
  • Ryan says, “We say good bye to Danny Gokey, one of the best, ladies and gentlemen…”

  • It’s time for Danny’s goodbye video. Intense moment. I HARBOR NO ILL WILL TOWARDS YOU, DANNY. SRSLY. Final rendition of "You Are So Beautiful", it was actually better than the night before. Paula is crying and after the performance, TOP 3 GROUP HUG.

  • Simon says, “None of us would have predicted this, guys, no disrespect because you were brilliant last night…and just now Danny, by the way, congratulations…Kris your second song in particular made you a contender…you’re in with a real show…Adam, we’ve always liked you. This could be, as we call, a big ding-dong coming up.”

  • LOL BIG DING DONG. BEST RESULTS SHOW EVER.
  • And Adam will be performing first next week because Kris won the post show coin toss.
  • And according to EW.Com's PopWatch, after the show, Momma Lambert and Momma Allen gave each other a giant "Proud Mama" hug. OMG HOW CAN I NOT LOVE THIS TOP 2??
Studio Recordings
Only doing Kris and Adam. Because I'm so biased that way. Also because my internet is extremely bitchy and this is all I managed to download.

Kris Allen - "Apologize"
Better than the live performance. Still a pretty straight arrangement but it's been Krissified in subtle, yet not so subtle ways. Definitely sounds like something that would fit right into his album. At least Randy and Kara got that part right.

Kris Allen - "Heartless"
I'm still deciding whether or not I like this one more or the live version more, because both are unique in their own ways. While the live one was just Kris stripped down to nothing but his guitar, making it unique in its own way. This one has a light R&B kind of feel, tempo slowed down, with the inclusion of strings and a piano in the background. Very mellow and chilled out, quite unlike the Kanye West version which has been autotuned to hell. And Kris says "homies". LOL. Why it's so amusing to me? I haven't a clue. XD

Adam Lambert - "One"
Because I love the live version a whole lot more (nearly cried. Hello?), listening to this in its original arrangement took awhile to get used to. When I first heard it, I was all, "WTF DID BANDZILLA DO TO THIS?". But listening to it on repeat tends to change your mind. Personally, I still feel that the live version is a lot more emotionally charged due to the way it gained momentum midway through and the lyrics that were specifically chosen to cram into 2 minutes. Granted, there's still a lot of emotion in the studio recording due to the gentle way Adam delivers it. His lower register is also more primarily used than compared to previous recordings, showing that he can sing in a low register contrary to popular belief (humph). Again, the melody change works extremely well in both the live and studio versions.

Adam Lambert - "Cryin'"
Ilovelovelove this. It's been on constant repeat for the past two days. This is better than the live version because at least here, Bandzilla doesn't drown him out. GOD. I will never get over the drowning out. Plus, it totally sounds like something that could be on Adam's actual album. Old school rock with a modern edge. The best thing about this song is that it showcases his vocal range in a huge way. Again, he uses his lower register a lot more. I love that he uses his lower register so much this week. I have to note the passaggio yet again, the transitioning from his chest voice to head voice is out of this world.

Wrap-Up: Who's Going To Win?
(SUBLIMINALMESSAGING:ADAM.)

Now that my Kradam finale dreams have been achieved, here's what I really think about what's going to happen next week during the finals.

As much as I want Adam to win, badly. Quite desperately need him to win, I think that Kris might have a little more of an upper hand here because a LOT and I mean, a LOT of people don't like Adam (SHUTUP) and are unhappy about the pimping that he's been getting all season. As we all know, too much pimping is never a good thing (RE: DANNY GOKEY).

This week proves that Kris is quite obviously a huge contender and that rendition of "Heartless" swept the entire night. Hands down. Kris has been steadily improving week after week (RE: "Ain't No Sunshine" --> "Falling Slowly" --> "She Works Hard For The Money") and unlike Danny or Adam, he hasn't been subjected to much pimping. Despite not having the strongest voice in the competition, he has this way of interpreting songs, slapping his signature all over them, making them instantly recognizable as a "Kris Allen" tune. Moreover, he plays a bajillion instruments (meaning 4), which is yet another advantage. So basically, Kris made his way to the finale based on his own talent and creativity. But now, like Adam, there's going to be a lot of pressure on Kris to deliver something drop-dead amazing next week.

On the other hand, I think that this week, was one of Adam's weakest nights. OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE I SAID IT OUT LOUD. It's not to say that he wasn't good. No. He was still amazing. But, it wasn't something that was at the level of "Mad World" or "Whole Lotta Love".

Since the Top 13, he's been delivering insanely charismatic and riveting performances to the point where I don't know if he's going to be able to top himself anymore. It's like he's set the bar so high that even he can't surpass it. Every week, he's expected to deliver something phenomenal and because of that expectation, it's going to be extremely difficult for him to meet that expectation unless he pulls one final trick out of the hat next week.

Also, another comment about this week's performance that regards Bandzilla. The beginning of "Cryin'" was slightly off because the band and background singer were drowning him out in a major way and it was so apparent that Adan knew something was wrong as he threw off his earpiece midway, which was the smartest thing he did, in my opinion. After throwing the earpiece off, Adam managed to salvage the performance (not that it wasn't good already, it was just lacking in something) in an extremely professional manner and blew the roof off.

Again, Adam's the only contestant who's been consistently delivering good performances each week despite this week being one of the weakest. Plus, he's got mad vocal control (RE: "Feeling Good" and that 12 second note) and that range. Oh my God. That range is insane, a gorgeous tenor verging on baritone with more than likely, at least a 3 to 4 octave range. And I cannot not mention his passaggio. Passaggio's are usually only achieved after a long period of intense vocal training, so yes, that is how powerful his voice is and he clearly knows his instrument well and uses to its full potential (RE: "Cryin'". The transitioning is exquisite). Tell me how many people are able to so seamlessly transition from a chest voice to a head voice in a split second? I'll tell you! Only one that I know of: Adam Lambert. Plus, he's always taking risks with the arrangements every week, making them unique and original. So, that's got to count for something.

Now, the question is, who deserves to win more? The commercial boy-next-door with the mellow demeanor and Jason Mraz-esque vibe? Or the glittered-up theater actor with the soaring voice and Freddie Mercury-like star quality?

I haven't a clue. Kris clearly has a more commercial appeal and I think that a lot of Danny/Matt fans will switch to Kris' side, because Gokites have a huge disdain for Adam :|. On the other hand, Adam's the most versatile out of the two and it's pretty clear that this has been something he's been working toward for a long time, after having struggling in the industry for awhile now (about 8 years or so?). That and I think that a majority of Kris/Allison fans love Adam as well, with Allison fans shifting to Adam. So, it's going to be very close.

I AM TORN. (vote for Adam) (wait. vote for Kris) (no wait. Adam) (Kris) (Kradam) (can we call a tie?)

Next week is going to be nuts. Best finale ever in the history of Idol. Ever. EVER. BETTER THAN COOKCHULETA. I've never been so excited.
